For decades Rear Window was unavailable because when Alfred Hitchcock died the rights to the film (which he had bought) and four other films were left to his daughter. They were known as the Five Lost Hitchcocks until about 1983 when Rear Window, The Man Who Knew Too Much, Rope, The Trouble With Harry, and Vertigo were re-released.
