The original writer for Roman Holiday, Dalton Trumbo, had been blacklisted as part of the Hollywood Ten. Therefore, he was unable to receive credit for his screenplay, or accept the Academy Award for Best Screenplay when it won. Trumbo’s friend Ian McLellan Hunter took credit for the screenplay, and accepted the Academy Award. In 1993, Trumbo’s wife Cleo received the Oscar, fourteen years after his death. When the film was restored and released in 2002, the credits were corrected and Trumbo finally got credit for his work.
