During a break from filming, Walter Matthau and Michael Crawford went to a nearby horse race. One of the horses racing was named Hello Dolly. The horse reminded Matthau of Barbra Streisand, whom he disliked, so he refused to bid on the horse. Crawford, who had nothing against Streisand, placed a bet on the horse. Hello Dolly won, and Matthau didn’t speak with Crawford for the rest of the shoot unless absolutely necessary.
